Son of a Preacher Man es una canción grabada por Dusty Springfield en 1968, incluida en su álbum Dusty in Memphis.
Escrita por John Hurley y Ronnie Wilkins, el tema fue inicialmente ofrecido a Aretha Franklin, quien no aceptó la oferta. Fue tras escuchar la canción de Dusty Springfield, cuando Aretha Franklin decidió grabar su propia versión dos años después. El éxito alcanzado por entonces por la grabación de Springfield no fue logrado por la versión de Aretha, incluida en su álbum This Girl's In Love With You.
La versión original de Dusty Springfield fue producida por Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd y Arif Mardin para la compañía discográfica Atlantic Records, y se convirtió en un éxito internacional. Robert Nesta Marley Booker (6 de febrero de 1945 – 11 de mayo de 1981), más conocido como Bob Marley, fue un músico, guitarrista y compositor jamaiquino. Durante su carrera musical fue el líder, compositor y guitarrista de las bandas de ska, rocksteady y reggae The Wailers (1964–1974) y Bob Marley & The Wailers (1974–1981). Marley sigue siendo el más conocido y respetado intérprete de la música reggae y es acreditado por ayudar a difundir tanto la música de Jamaica como el movimiento rastafari (del que era un miembro comprometido) a una audiencia mundial.
